Carolyn Becic

Executive Director

My four-year-old daughter, Lucia

What is my role at Oregon Mentors?

As the executive director, my role is to keep the board engaged in our mission, raise funds, represent our organization in the community, and communicate with opinion leaders about Oregon Mentors. Because we run a lean organization, I also write grants, coach and train mentoring programs, and organize events. I love my job because what I do is different each day.

What's the best part of my job?

The best part of my job is visiting programs in the field. You learn a lot about Oregon when you travel the state and visit with nearly 100 mentoring programs operating in 500 locations. I also work with talented and creative people, both on my team and at mentoring programs.

Who are my mentors?

My dad and Ken Thrasher. My dad taught me the value of hard work and Ken has taught me how to be a better manager.

Who do I mentor?

I mentor a student at a rural high school in Marion County through the ASPIRE Program. They are piloting a new program called E-ASPIRE, which connects high school seniors and mentors through email to work on getting ready for post high school education and training. My E-ASPIRE mentee has a lot going for her. It’s fun to encourage her as she makes important decisions about her future.

What do I like to do in my free time?

Ski in the winter and camp in the summer. I’ve discovered bootcamp—a highly efficient work out program—that has hopefully prepared me to beat my husband down the slopes this winter.
