2/23/2010 – Portland – Introductory Mentoring Session

Overview:
Explore the world of mentoring
Attend an informal, introductory session on how to become a mentor
Description:
Potential mentors always have a variety of questions when considering if, how and where to mentor. Join Oregon Mentors' program manager, Celeste Janssen, for an informational session to learn what it means to mentor, how to take the first step toward becoming a mentor, and to get answers to all of your questions. Celeste will also talk about stages of a mentoring relationship and qualities that research shows makes mentoring effective. This session is meant to educate, but your attendance doesn't require you to sign up for a program.

Description:
Need additional trainings for your mentors? Join Oregon Mentors at our regional training development symposium. Participants from different programs will break into small groups and use research and internal expertise to develop trainings for mentors. Participants will have access to all trainings developed in this process. Potential topics include:
- Attachment theory and mentoring
- Being a Developmental/Instrumental Mentor
- Becoming an Advocate/Connector for your Mentee
- Boundaries
- Closure
- Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity
- Dealing with Difficult Situations
- Goal Setting
- Problem Solving
- Youth Culture
- 40 Developmental Assets for Mentors
- etc.
This event is free for Oregon Mentors registered programs, and lunch will be provided.
Location/Directions:
Downtown Portland. Location will be provided to participants.

3/12/2010 – Portland – Fingerprinting Technique Class
3:00pm - 4:30pm
Description:
If you aren't taking good, crisp, square fingerprints (or if you wonder why prints should be square), join us for a refresher on fingerprinting. We'll talk about good technique and we'll practice the proper roll. Learn why a clear print can be not enough, and find out what information is need (and is not needed) in filling out the top portion of the fingerprint card.
