Program Description
Impact Northwest's program has a long tradition of providing a positive experience for both the students and adult mentors. Through one-on-one relationships, volunteers connect with youth while building life skills, setting goals and exploring options for school, transitions and life. Mentors are matched with youth and meet weekly to participate in school-based activities that help build self esteem and trust. As the relationship between the mentor and student grows, matches are supported as activities begin to include activities away from the school. Impact Northwest is known for its strong training and support for both mentors and students. While mentors are required to commit for no less than 12 months, because of the training and support provided, matches often continue for years beyond the original commitment as both the mentor and student come to enjoy their time together. The program schedules regular activities designed to promote positive experiences between the mentor and student ranging from movie nights and art projects to Blazer games and community service projects.
