Program Description

JEM is a prevention/intervention program which provides mentoring and support services for at-risk and juvenile justice involved youth. JEM mentors work one-on-one to provide youth with the support, guidance and friendship of a positive adult role model. The program goal is to reduce the rates of recidivism, decrease involvement in gangs, drugs, alcohol and/or crime, improve academic achievement, and provide social and emotional support for youth who are under supervision of the juvenile justice system and/or have an incarcerated parent.

Provide stable consistent adult role model. Improve academic achievement; Improve peer relationships; Improve family stability and relationships. Reduce the rates of recidivism among offending youth; Reduce involvement in drugs, alcohol, and gangs.

Mentor Profile

Maintain weekly contact with youth. Support youth in personal, social, academic/vocational development. Create an environment of acceptance, trust, respect, and support for youth. Document contacts with youth, submit monthly reporting form. Assist youth in setting and achieving goals. Maintain regular communication with program staff. Attend required trainings. Requirements: Must be 18 years or older. Available to mentor at least one (1) hour per week. Willing to commit to at least 12 months of mentoring. Submit to and pass a state and federal criminal history screening. A valid driver's license, good driving history, and verifiable auto insurance.

  • Community-based (community activities might include, sports, meals, museums, concerts, etc.)

Hours Needed

  • Weekday Mornings: 8 am to Noon
  • Weekday Afternoon: Noon to 3 pm
  • Weekday After School: 3 pm to 5 pm
  • Weekday Evenings: 5 pm to 9 pm
  • Weekend
